Exploiting the Wide Five Split

by Pender Noriega

The wide five split does not present itself that often but I am always on the lookout for it as it is often missed by most fans. As luck would have it, in my first matinee at Derby Lane, there it was in the sixth race.

I was really surprised that the old pros at Derby Lane missed seeing it and yet I understand how difficult it
is to see everything without using a computer.

I recommend that you read all you can and remember that the wide 5 split can be very rewarding. All fans seem to be aware of the advantage of the rail runner out of the 1 post when the 2 and 3 posts contain non-rail runners. I also recommend that you keep an eye out for the situation when the 3 and 4 greyhounds are both rail runners and the 5 and 6 greyhounds are wide runners, as this particular post position advantage for the 5 post will normally go unnoticed. Remember, when you are handicapping you are investing your money, so read and learn as much as you can. ###
